Highballs and haircuts
Have you started to notice your male counterpart hogging the mirrors, using your loofah, and maybe even stealing some pomade? It’s no surprise because a recent study suggests that there is really only a seven-minute gap between men and women’s grooming routines. The study, conducted by Allure and GQ, discovered that 63% of men take pleasure in their grooming habits. As opposed to 10 years ago, a whopping 72% of men feel that a pressure and expectation to care more about their appearance than previous generations.
Maybe I’ve been watching too much Mad Men, but doesn’t it seem like this recent resurgence in men’s grooming is “retro?” What happened to REAL barbershops, the ones where men went to get a close shave, oil in their hair, and socialize? This was the age when men wore pressed suits at any office, and kept a comb in their back pocket. To be fair, I’m glad men have ditched the high waist pleated pants and starchy collars. But gosh darn it; I would love to see a man with a close shave and slick haircut.
Alas, cocktail hour isn’t necessarily a designated time of day and Cadillac isn’t the nicest car on the market. Times have changed and just like hairstyles and trends, societal norms evolve. It is thought that the steadily rising availability of men’s products, like Euphora’s mens’ line, is the reason for males’ recent ownership of their appearance. The study also found out that between after-shave, pomade, and deodorant, men use 11 beauty products on average. That’s only 5 items less than the ladies.
Shear Productions recognizes and supports this trend by carrying a wide variety of products for the not so average male. So bring your man in for a visit, chances are he’ll be more excited than he lets on.
