Finding a great stylist

Finding a great stylist

A great stylist is someone you trust, someone you enjoy and someone you can rely on for tips, tricks and ideas. Unlike the dentist office, visiting your stylist should be an experience you look forward to, confident you’ll come out looking like a million bucks. Most importantly you should feel comfortable with your stylist and trust that they listen to you and know your hair and what will work for you.

A good stylist is someone who both listens to you and communicates with you. Finding that right person can be tricky, here are some steps to get you started:

1. Ask a friend or family member for a referral. Chances are if they’ve been going to a place for years it’s because they’ve had a great experience there. It’s always a good place to start.

2. heck out salons that are convenient for you and where you live or work so that you’ll be likely to keep going there and it won’t be a hassle for you.

3. Ask a salon rep for someone who is familiar with your particular hair type, style or preferences.  Many stylists have specialties you may not know about until you ask.

4. Don’t be afraid to try something new, if you’re not happy at your current place or with the person you saw last, scope out other options.

5. Take a test drive. Get a hair cut first before plunging into something more risky like a dramatic style change or coloring. Get a feel for how the stylist listens to you and how you feel about the cut experience before going for the whole package.
